Meeting Blueberry

23 February 2007

We woke up bright and early this morning to go see Blueberry for the first time live and in… well, in black & white. I don’t know if it was nerves or just 1st trimester blahs but I felt particularly yucky — more nauseated and tired and crabby than usual.

Tim stood by me and held my hand while we watched the screen for the first sign of life and there it was… a little balled up shape with a heartbeat. The doctor held the ultrasound still and we got to watch the little heart just beating away. Unfortunately, Blueberry did not feel like cooperating for much else. She was curled up against the side of my uterus and so they couldn’t get very good measurements or shots of her.

After trying several different angles and running the measurements, my doctor decided that we are not as far along as we thought originally. Since my cycles have been sort of screwy and we’re not sure exactly when we conceived, it’s entirely possible. So, based on the ultrasound, we are getting bumped from just over nine weeks back down to seven-and-a-half weeks on the baby scale.

It’s a little disappointing in a way… mostly because I am ready to be done with the first trimester from an adjustment/sickness standpoint but also because it’s a lot less worrisome and more certain after you hit that 12 week mark. This also means that we were giving her a little too much credit for size when we first found out — but we’re sticking with the Blueberry moniker and we’re just as excited as ever.

So, without further ado… World, this is Blueberry. Blueberry, this is World…

Blueberry’s First Photo Shoot The little grey blur on the right side of the black spot is her. The doctor says she has her back to us.  Not much to see, but it’s still our Blueberry.  Hopefully she’ll be more cooperative next time!  But if she’s anything like her mom, the orneriness will probably continue.  :o)
