We Made It…

7 November 2007

As most of you know, Keyven and I headed to Kansas earlier than expected to stay with my family while Tim is in training.  After a week of packing, making last-minute arrangements and selling two motorcycles, none of which could have been accomplished without the help of G&G Olson, Aunt Victoria arrived just in time to help load up “Dusty” (the Olson clan mini-van) for a cross-country adventure.  We left bright and early on Sunday morning, after a brief detour for coffee and good-byes with Aunt Night-Mere.

I wish I could say the trip was exciting and interesting… but I was so tired from the past few weeks and just ready to be in Kansas, plus both Keyven and I caught a cold before we left, so it was all I could do just to function.  Auntie V. was an excellent chauffeur, covering most of the trip except for a couple of hours on Sunday night.  We learned on our route that Ohio drivers were the worst and that there is only one Sonic off the main road all the way from Virginia to Kansas.  We made great time and arrived a little after 4 p.m. on Monday.

Of course, first on the schedule after arrival was a visit to El Pueblito, the Mexican restaurant by which I measure all others, which is why all Mexican restaurants in Virginia suck.  Yesterday entailed watching the van being unloaded in to the living room… G-Ma/rge would be appalled to know that we ended up having to load the entire back portion, blocking the rear view mirror but we made it safe and sound after all.  Today I’m taking one more day of sleep and recovery and list-making before I decide to get with the program and start catching up on life tomorrow.

I know we’re behind on Keyven pics and that will be remedied once I figure out where my external hard drive is… he is doing great, enjoying meeting the rest of the family — even Uncle Mark & Aunt Catie!  Mark is home on leave from Iraq & his wife Catie is visiting from Germany so the timing worked out well for that.  Tonight we’re meeting Uncle Matt & Aunt Angie.  Nana  & Pops are, of course, thrilled to have a baby around even if it means getting used to the idea of being “grand” parents.  And Keyven is having fun with all the attention and new experiences.  Right now, he’s taking a nap in his crib for the very first time!  Mom especially enjoys that new experience.  🙂  Which sounds like it’s ending right about… now.

Glad you are all safe. Thanks for giving Aunt Night Mere a complete heart attack by not letting her know until now. 😐 Perhaps I will forgive you … one day. Or … not. :-p

Welcome to Kansas! You and Hollie will have to schedule a “play date.” This is evidently what they call it when mommies want to do things without daddies. Hmm… I’ll have to come up with a new catch phrase for when daddies want to do things without mommies…
